"A blanket fort is a construction commonly made using blankets, bed sheets, pillows, and sofa cushions. It is also known as a couch fort, pillow fort, sheet fort or den. Parenting books frequently suggest building blanket forts as an activity for parents to participate in with their children. A blanket fort is made by grabbing blankets around the house and setting them up in a room-like manner.

"According to Guinness World Records, the largest blanket fort ever was 1141.79 m2 and was built by Cub Scouts Pack 502, Scouts BSA Troop 502B, and Scouts BSA Troop 502G from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

'The record was attempted "to empower the scouts towards meaningful service and to engage, raise awareness, and respond to needs within their community." (Wikipedia)

"During our firmwide meeting this year, McMillan Pazdan Smith donated hundreds of blankets to Cub Scout Pack 502 to aid in a Guiness World Record attempt and benefit the community. A group of 108 Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 502, BSA Troop 502B, and BSA Troop 502G made history on Saturday, May 13, 2023, by building the world’s largest blanket fort at Waterfront Park in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The fort took four-and-a-half hours to construct and measured 12,290.12 square feet–breaking the previous record of 9,935.30 square feet set in 2019," the McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture says.

"The record-breaking fort was the culmination of a blanket drive service campaign that collected blankets from schools, businesses, churches, friends, and family to donate to homeless and animal shelters in the community. The Scouts will spend the rest of the year donating all the blankets used to construct the fort to homeless shelters and animal shelters to make sure they end up in the hands of those in need.

"The responsibility of building the blanket fort fell primarily on the youth Scouts (boys and girls), with adult supervision and guidance. “These Scouts invested themselves in this pursuit, spending many meetings practicing the skills needed to accomplish their goal, from organizing teams to testing construction methods,” said Cub Pack Leader Nathan Schutte, “I couldn’t have been prouder supporting this effort. They will remember this accomplishment for the rest of their lives.” Schutte is an architect in our Charleston Studio. He rallied MPS to be among the businesses that donated blankets used for the fort."

"Congratulations to Cub Scout Pack 502 for their Official Guinness World Record for worlds largest blanket fort," Jake Rambo- Town Councilman says.

"The fort was constructed at Mt Pleasant Waterfront Park on May 13 and measured a whopping 12,920 square feet! All blankets used will be donated to various South Carolina homeless and animal shelters. A win win!!"

"Troops 502G and 502B joined forces with Cub Scout Pack 502 in May of 2023 to construct this massive 12,290.12 square foot structure out of donated blankets," the Scout Troop 502 of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina says.

"But that's not all we're about! Our Scouts enjoy camping, canoeing, caving, and working hard to advance through the Scouting program by demonstrating skills, leadership, and service.

"But most of all, we like to have fun! You may even have seen some of our Scouts on Outer Banks on Netflix."
